Accessibility

We want our shows to be accessible to everyone.

We made these videos for people who might like to know more about what to expect when they come to see a show. If you have any ideas about how we could improve these, or any other aspects or our approach to accessibility, please let us know!

 Accessibility FAQs

Coming to the theatre can sometimes feel like a big experience, and we understand lots of people might want to know what to expect before they arrive.

  • You might enjoy the design of our set and costumes. They are very colourful and there are 4 circles that hang above the stage that have words and pictures projected onto them. The actors also do acrobatics and aerial circus, which is pretty cool to watch.

  • A lot of the story is told using bodies instead of words, so there is a good chance you might still know what’s going on.

  • We use a blend of British Sign Language, Sign Supported English and Visual Vernacular alongside any spoken words. The words are also displayed in a central caption screen above the stage, and sometimes wihin the 4 circles that hang over the stage.

  • There is a lot of music. Thoug there are some words, there are also sections of the show where no words are used , so you might want a friend or family member to describe what’s happening on the stage to you. Audiences never have to be quiet during our shows.

  • There aren’t any particualrly loud sections in this show, but if you are sensitive to noise you might want to bring some ear defenders with you. You are also welcome to leave and come back again, or watch from the back of the theatre or another place where you feel safe.

  • There are a couple of instances when the performers come into the audience. If you don’t want them to come near you you can tell them and they will go away again. You will also be invited stand up and join in with some ‘aqua aerobics’, but you don’t have to!

  • If it would help your family to enjoy the event more, Can’t Sit Still is very happy to provide an archive recording of the performance for you to watch in advance of coming to the live show. If this is something that you’d find useful, please email hello@cantsitstill.org
